The A-Main for the 2021 Classico Grand Prix started off one of the most dominant performances in the race in recent memory. After a P2 in qualifying and a sweep of his heat races, overall Super Series point leader Sam Hunt led the field away for the start of the 15 lapper from pole, and put in a stellar opening lap. That lap would net him .5 seconds advantage over outside pole sitter Andres Prieto, With Diego Morales and Paulo Franca in tow just behind. And while there was a bit of infighting behind him -Prieto was
not interested in slipping back from 2nd- Hunt was just flat out quick. Even when they were not battling behind him, he was still about a tenth quicker, and that pace never let up. The closest driver to him would be 2019 winner Andrew Wood. After he worked his way up into second, Wood started putting in laps close to Hunt, but the pair stayed an even 2.5 seconds apart all the way to the end. It was Hunt’s 4th win of the season, 7th of his career, but by far the biggest. Wood settled for his second Classico GP podium in three years, while Diego Morales’ patience netted him the final step on the podium in third...
